Since when did we as a society decide that attention seeking is something shameful and “wrong”? I’m pretty sure nearly every species needs at least some amount of attention to survive/thrive.
There’s a legend that the village elders tell the children, a story about a lonely god that lives in the mountains. The story says that the god was banished from the heavens for falling in love with his creation, us, the world. The god loved the world he created , he wept for it, he bled for it, and most important of all he loved it with all that he could. The other gods grew jealous of the attention the lonely god was giving his creation and so they ordered the god to destroy it, and when he refused they banished him forcing him to live among his creation for all eternity, and only if the god destroyed his creation would he be allowed back into the heavens.
The god at first was delighted to live among his creation, to love it up close. He travelled across the world living among humans, he travelled from village to village blessing people and curing their ills. He ventured through forests, mountains and oceans intent to see all that he could. Soon word spread about the god that could cure any illness and bless you with amazing strength, tales spread of the god curing the incurable, blessing the weak with the strength to move mountains. But man began to grow greedy and along with tales of the kind, virtuous god spread despicable vile rumours, stating that if you consumed the gods flesh you could obtain his power for yourself. That you could have his strength and power to bless the weak and cure the ill, that you too would gain godhood, that you would take the lonely gods place in the heavens.
Soon the god was attacked wherever he went, no longer was he greeted with warm smiles and loving arms, no, now he was greeted with vicious snarls and sharp swords. The god could find no peace or safety no matter which village he went to, no matter how much he begged. So with golden ichor staining his skin and distraught that the people he loved so much, that he got banished for, wanted to kill him, the god retreated into the mountains resigning himself to an eternity of solitude, because no matter how much his creation hurt him he could never bring himself to destroy it, so with a heavy heart the god bid farewell to the humans and began his life of solitude only the animals and plants for company.
And before long the lonely gods tale was lost to time. It became nothing more than a children's bedtime story, and it would have stayed that way if it wasn't for one curious and determined emperor, committed to getting rid of the curse that plagued him.
accidentally said 'corrupted memory' instead of 'nostalgia' today and honestly… i think i'm onto something
this fragment does not belong in this version of me and it is definitely harming the local hardware
